About Me

My name is Jaime Robb and I am a doctoral candidate in the Department of Communication at the University of South Florida. I am a teacher-scholar whose work is focused on marginalized communities’ experiences within health-related situations.

I currently teach Persuasion and Media along with Health Communication. Persuasion and Media is a required class for Communication majors that surveys historical and culturally relevant rhetorical theories. Health Communication offers a basic introduction to the field of health communication, ethical concerns in the healthcare environment, and the concepts that frame theory and research in this area. Additionally, I have also taught SPC 2608- Introduction to Public Speaking, which engages a diverse range of students on the matters of presenting and attending to the art of public presentations.

My focus as a researcher starts with seeing language as consequential to the way humans experience the material world (Burke, 1945). My Master’s thesis used rhetorical theories and ideas of community to notice how fan communities emerge and sustain relevance in the virtual setting. As a Ph.D. student, my research is focused on the discursive representation of undocumented immigrants in the United States and its effect on these groups' access to health-related services.  My dissertation will involve interviewing undocumented individuals from the South Florida area as a way to (re)-present their experiences of marginalized access to health care.
